This large heavy sterling cross pendant is cast in cuttlebone. What I like about casting in cuttlebone is the great texture. The cuttlebones are all different like a fingerprint, and the cuttlebone is burnt up in the process, so no two cast pieces are ever identical! This piece is highly polished and textured....and heavy! It is 14.15dwt /22 grams of sterling .925 silver. It measures 60mm from top of bail to bottom, and about 37mm across at the widest point. This piece was individually carved in cuttlebone by my husband, so it is unique and one of a kind, in the carving and also the cuttlebone pattern. There is also a great texture on the reverse side.
The chain IS NOT included; however we will include a leather or ribbon cord.

Cuttlebone is a hard, brittle internal structure found in all members of the cuttlefish. Cuttlefish are marine animals of the same class which also includes squid, octopuses, and nautiluses. Today, cuttlebones are commonly used as calcium-rich dietary supplements for caged birds, chinchillas, hermit crabs, and reptiles. Because cuttlebone is able to withstand high temperatures and is easily carved, it serves as mold-making material for small metal casting for the creation of jewelry and small sculptural objects.
